Toasted sarnies made in a microwave?

Who doesnt love a toasted sandwich? Properly toasted, crunchy golden bread; ham, gooey cheese and a dollop of tangy chutney irresistible. Our Buyers love them so much that theyve spent a couple of years looking for a microwave grill that would cook them to perfection. So why a microwave grill? Well, as good as electric toasted sandwich makers are, they take up loads of worktop space, can be slow to heat up, are fiddly to clean and worst of all can sometimes leak out all that yummy filling. Plus, theyre a bit of a one-trick pony.

Top toasties

In pursuit of toasted sarnie perfection, we tested a good few microwave products that claimed to do the business, but until we got out hands on this one from Lku, they all fell short of our expectations. After testing, testing and testing again, were very excited to say this one really does make incredible toasties (even without any oil or butter!). Think crunchy toast with melted cheese and hot-right-to-the-middle fillings.

Convinced by a crispy crunch

Not convinced yet? When our Buying Team excitedly told us what this grill could do, we were a little dubious at first but a plateful of properly crunchy toasties instantly had us persuaded! And its not just good for the purists cheese and ham variety; the plates are held together with silicone bands, so it can even accommodate deep paninis and ciabattas, packed with lots of lovely layered fillings.

Delicious meat, fish and veggies

As satisfying as they are, man cannot live on toasties alone but versatility is one of the reasons we love this grill. You might not have considered cooking burgers and sausages in your microwave oven, but when you use this grill, theyll be done to perfection. Unlike other microwave cookers that just heat or steam, leaving food a little pale, this actually browns food and gives it a lined, grilled effect, producing juicy burgers, chicken and salmon portions that look really appetising, and tender veg too.

How do I use it?

Before you start cooking youll need to preheat the grill. Pop it into the microwave for three minutes (use this time to prep your food), then carefully place your food on the bottom grill, rest the upper grill on top and secure it in place with the stretchy silicone loops. Cook your food according to the timings in the included booklet and youre ready to eat! Make sure that you use oven gloves as the grill does get very hot.

Easy to clean

Made from non-stick coated aluminium and silicone, its really easy to clean once youve munched your toasted sandwiches. Unlike electric toastie makers that are notoriously fiddly to wash up, you can dunk this in a sink of soapy water, or even pop it in the dishwasher on the top rack for a really convenient clean. Please note that we recommend that the grill is cleaned thoroughly after each use.

Wondering how soon you can eat? Heres a quick guide to timings after preheating the grill for 3 minutes, based on a 900W microwave – timings will vary.

Beef burger 4 minutes

Veggie burger 5 minutes

Asparagus 5 minutes
